Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei

A high-school student and skillful computer programmer named Akemi Nakajima created a software called "Devil Summoning Program". At first Nakajima intended to use the software to gain revenge on a classmate who bullied him. However, things went out of control, and the malicious demon Loki was unleashed into the world. Soon, a demonic invasion of the Earth began. Aided by the lovely Yumiko Shirasagi, a transfer student who seems to be interested in him, Nakajima decides to undo his wrongs and defeat the demons. In order to do that, the young couple will need to learn how to use the program for good purposes, and uncover the truth about their own previous incarnations.

Which Version Of DDS: Megami Tensei Should I Play?

There are two main versions of Digital Devil Story Megami Tensei: the original NES version as well as the SNES remake included as part of Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei. The remake has a different look, updated soundtrack, and gameplay tweaks that may improve your experience. There are merits to both versions, though the remake is understood to be a more comfortable gameplay experience.

DDS: Megami Tensei FAQ

  • VIT/STR build for Nakajima. He cannot use Magic, but increasing INT also raises his magical resistance. INT/SPD build for Yumiko. She won't get her first damaging spell for a while though.
  • Recruit a Cerberus on 1F of Daedalus. He's an uncommon encounter. He should help with the Minotaur boss.
  • If you're underleveled, try grinding on the spots where a demon was hiding. They will be there every time.
  • Later in the game you will run into enemies that have energy drain, which will cause human characters to lose a level if it connects. This can be prevented by casting tetraja. You can check an enemy's skills in battle with the COMP's devil analyzer - it's typically night race demons that can level drain.
