Megami Tensei II

In year 199X, a terrible disaster occurred. An atomic explosion destroyed large parts of the Earth and opened the way to a demonic invasion. The world lies in ruins, and the demons are ripping it apart. You control a group known as Devil Busters. Your mission is to prevent the demonic minions and their evil lord from dominating the entire planet.
In the beginning of the game, you create a party and allocate available skill points at your wish (upgrading strength, stamina, magic, etc.). When you level up, you can also distribute the gained points the way you like. Upon meeting a hostile creature, you can talk your way out of the battle or even convince a demon to fight for you. The game world is viewed partly from top-down perspective, and partly from first-person perspective (in dungeons and battles).

Which Version Of Megami Tensei II Should I Play?

There are two main versions of Megami Tensei II: the original NES version as well as the SNES remake included as part of Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei. The remake has a different look, updated soundtrack, and gameplay tweaks that may improve your experience. There are merits to both versions, though the remake is understood to be a more comfortable gameplay experience.

Megami Tensei II FAQ

  • As with Megami Tensei, VIT/STR build for the hero with at least 7 INT, INT/SPD for the female partner, and VIT/INT/SPD for the friend character.
  • If you are playing the Kyuuyaku version, you can get some bonuses by completing some optional objectives in Megami Tensei before finishing the game and immediately starting MTII. They're very minor and aren't a reason to play MT first if you don't want to.
  • The minotaur at the end of Devil Busters at the beginning can be easily beaten by recruiting a pixie and a kobold and fusing them into a carbuncle.
  • Get as many core shields as possible from Rag's Shop by trading him emeralds. It'll make the Zaratan dungeon much less painful.
  • It is possible to see both of the game's endings in one playthrough, so long as you make the choices that lead to the game's chaos ending.
